Students in Bodrum take lessons on board Marella Discovery

There, the youngsters were taught about maritime-related issues, including cruise tourism and the importance of ocean conservation. Sessions talking about the port and a guided tour of the ship were also part of the programme.  

A blueprint for more projects

Olivia Wells, sustainability manager for Marella Cruises said, ‘We are proud to be working with Global Ports Holding on the social responsibility project which is looking to educate future generations around sustainability at sea whilst improving knowledge of cruise tourism, maritime affairs and how we can preserve the natural environment in which our ships sail.

‘With the help of Intercruises and Bodrum Cruise Port, the social responsibility project will become the blueprint for potential projects in ports from Marella Cruises.’ 

Two vessels in port 

The trip took place on May 11 while Virgin Voyages’ Resilient Lady was also in port, the two ships bringing a combined 4,295 passengers to the Turkish city.

Güngör said another successful cruise season in Bodrum is expected this year.
