Taiwanese ports gearing up to boost cruise business

In his welcome address at Taiwan's inaugural Asia Cruise Forum, taking place in Kaohsiung Tai Hsin Lee, gm of host Taiwan International Ports Corporation, Ltd, set the tone by focusing on  ‘ripple-effect development’ and strategic alliances being a crucial part of business opportunities in the cruise industry.

Minister for Transportation and Communications, Yeh Kuang-Shih said it made sense for Taiwan to focus on the Asia cruise market.  

He said to boost Taiwan as a cruise destination his Ministry is developing cruise terminals at Kaohsiung and Keelung cruise terminals. These are due to be completed by 2018 and other ports may follow later. Taiwan's two other main ports of call are Hualian and Taichung.

20bn Taiwanese Dollars worth of infrastructure investment has been earmarked for the tourism industry in Kaohsiung. The city's mayor acknowledged that speed of CIQ clearance needs to be improved and hoped to work with the central government with regard to this challenge.
