Aroya Cruises' first ship undergoing upgrade at Bredo Dry Docks

The forrmer World Dream of Genting Hong Kong, temporarily renamed Manara, arrived at the yard early this week, docking at the Eurogate Container Terminal at Stromkaie.

Details on the scope of works for the 2017-built ship are tightly under wraps but said to include interior revamps along with some limited structural work and a refurbishment of the main engines. It is also understood that most of the work will start this autumn following comprehensive planning, and that the ship will be moved to a pier next to Lloyd Werft at that time.

Cooperation with Lloyd Werft

Lloyd Werft and Bredo Dry Docks are linked through the family-controlled Heinrich Rönner Gruppe. While Bredo is part of the Group, Rönner also holds an important stake in Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven. It is understood that Bredo and Lloyd will cooperate on the Manara project. After works are completed, the ship is expected re-enter the dry dock at some point in late winter or early spring next year, ahead of its introduction.

Important contract for Bredo 

The value of the upgrade project is unknown, as are possible suppliers for the interiors. But it is clear the work on Manara constitutes an important reference for Bredo Dry Docks and marks the yard's entry into the cruise business.

Meanwhile, Lars Clasen, CEO, Cruise Saudi, told Seatrade Cruise News the launch of Aroya Cruises is 'a natural step in our ambitious plans and adds a new experiential dimension to Saudi’s tourism sector.'

Clasen said Aroya Cruises aims to create 'an exceptional Arabian passenger experience.

'A warm welcome, generosity and a sense of community has characterised the Saudi culture for generations, and we are working hard to ensure that Aroya Cruises takes these principles with it into the establishment of this new cruise line.'

Clasen said the approach includes facilities and services of the highest standard and creating memorable experiences for local and regional guests built on the values of inspiration, enrichment, generosity and respect.

'Onshore, we are working on curating and refining our shore excursion programme, carefully selecting inspiring destinations and ports which will enable our guests to live a remarkably Arabian experience like never before,' he said.

Saudi nationals will be the main source market, supplemented by expatriates and regional visitors.
