To celebrate the return, a number of events were held on board prior to departure including two matinee shows performed in the main lounge by celebrity comedian and Carnival’s ‘curator of comedy’ George Lopez. In addition, passengers could participate in a shipboard scavenger hunt or compete in a hamburger-making contest at the newly installed Guy Fieri’s Burger Joint located poolside.
There were also photo opportunities with a giant sombrero at BlueIguana Cantina, Kiss the Frog at the RedFrog Rum Bar and High-Five the Iguana at BlueIguana Tequila Bar. And a photo op with cheerleaders and trivia were offered at the EA SPORTS Bar, while the Casino Bar Stage had a Spin to Win Wheel with give-aways. A roaming mariachi band played around the ship.
Carnival’s official mix master, DJ Irie, was spinning tunes and entertaining the crowd on Lido Deck throughout the day. Drink samples were offered in the Atrium and the new pharmacy-themed Alchemy Bar showcased samples of its specialty drinks concocted by trained mixologists, as well.
Carnival Triumph underwent repairs and upgrades following the fire that knocked out power to the ship in the Gulf of Mexico.
Operating systems were enhanced as part of a $300m fleetwide program Carnival announced in April that added the most advanced fire-suppression systems available, a second emergency back-up generator to power toilets, elevators and food service in the event of a main power loss and a reconfiguration of systems to ensure redundancy in propulsion and main power supplies.
A number of Fun Ship 2.0 dining and bar innovations also were added to Carnival Triumph including a Guy’s Burger Joint, a BlueIguana Cantina, a RedFrog Rum Bar, and more.
The ship operates four- and five-day cruises from Galveston.
