The inaugural cruise is said to be on schedule for July 31 from Marseille, with a trade preview before that.

Fire safety panels properly certified

Crystal said the ship had a full contingent of officers, technicians and engineers on board to test navigation, technical and mechanical systems, and all passed.  Addressing a recent industry fire safety issue, the line noted it 'ensured the fire-resistant panels were properly certified and not defective.'

Fincantieri acknowledged

'Completing sea trials is one of the final milestones needed before we can officially return to service,' said Robero Fazi, SVP marine operations. 'We are proud of the entire team who helped get us to this day both on board and shoreside. We also want to thank our wonderful partners at Fincantieri who worked around the clock to deliver this beautiful ship on time and ready to welcome guests in just a few weeks.'

Occupancy reduced to 740

Under A&K Travel Group ownership, Crystal Serenity will be emerging with larger and updated suites, reduced occupancy reduced (from 980 passengers to 740), refreshed specialty dining venues and new wellness offerings, including the completely renovated and renamed Aurōra Spa. There is a new pickleball court, and 're-energized' entertainment and events are promised.

Crystal Serenity is due to spend the rest of the summer in the Mediterranean before repositioning to North America in September for Canada and Caribbean sailings. The ship is also scheduled to operate Crystal's 2024 world cruise.

Crystal Symphony is set to debut Sept. 1 following its refurbishment.
