Epoxy repair expert expands with workshops
Wencon, provider of epoxy-based repair kits for emergency repairs on ships, spent most of last year focussing on finding, training and certifying marine workshops in some of the world's major ports to perform durable repairs with epoxy.
To date, 12 workshops have been certified, and a workshop in Italy will be added to the list next month. Major cruise ports include Piraeus, Hamburg, Rio de Janeiro, St. John's, Dubai and Shanghai. The Danish company's goal is to have a certified workshop in all major repair ports around the world, says managing director John T. Nielsen. Another eight should be added in 2010.
Epoxy protects against wear and galvanic corrosion so, for example, repairing a seawater filter using this method will retrieve its initial durability and functionality and typically at a fraction of the cost of a new spare part, notes Nielsen. He adds it is much easier and faster to mount the refurbished part than adapt a new one.
In addition to workshops Wencon has a number of distributors and stock points around the world.
