Metalcolour to supply 350,000 sq mtr of DOBEL film laminated steel to next Icon class ship
Metalcolour has been commissioned to deliver approximately 350,000 sq mtr of DOBEL film laminated steel to Royal Caribbean International's next Icon-class ship.
The 250,800gt, 7,600 passenger capacity vessel, like her sister Icon of the Seas, is being built at Meyer Turku in Finland. The first deliveries of film laminated product for the second ship, due to sail in 2025, will take place this autumn.
50th anniversary
Ingemar Forsberg, CEO of Metalcolour Group said the company is ‘particularly pleased that this year we not only have the pleasure of celebrating Metalcolour's 50th anniversary, but also one of the largest orders we have ever received for a single cruise ship.'
At the beginning of 2022, Metalcolour began the delivery of 350,000sq mtr of DOBEL products to Icon of the Seas that adorn wall panels, ceilings, doors and wet areas. Icon of the Seas sports 20 decks, seven swimming pools and six water slides and is scheduled to enter service in early 2024.
DOBEL film laminated steel and aluminium are suitable for many types of interior applications, Forsberg said. 'They are very flexible materials that can be shaped in almost any way. In the manufacturing process, using prelaminated steel or aluminium often results in fewer production steps and lower energy consumption.'
Recyclable
Film laminated metal is also a good alternative from a recycling perspective because used material can be melted down and reused, he added.
Forsberg emphasized Metalcolour's main focus is delivering high-quality products.
'Over the years, we have also developed innovative solutions that have been beneficial both for our customer and for the end result. It is appreciated and helps us to create long-term business relationships,' he said.
