The work will take place in Rotterdam during a three-week dry dock from Jan. 22 to Feb. 12.

'With this revitalization we are adding some of the most beloved spaces and offerings across our ships to enhance the guest experience aboard Norwegian Joy. Guests will have a greater variety of staterooms to choose from and a world class, full-service spa to spend their days at sea fully immersed in relaxation,' said David Herrera, president of Norwegian Cruise Line.

Spa enhancements

The new thermal suite, which replaces the Galaxy Pavilion virtual-realty complex, will be the largest on a Breakaway-Plus ship. It will offer a more centralized layout with an entrance graced by waterfalls and sculptures.

A separate lounge area will hold three times as many of the popular hot tile loungers, and spa-goers will have easy access to the sauna, ice room and aromatic steam room.

Additional offerings include a new Biostation with IV drip therapy to deliver nutrients, four-senses loungers for deep relaxation and Kneipp haptic foot therapy, which massages the feet as users walk across a pebbled moving stream that alternates between hot and cold foot baths.

24 new balcony staterooms

A portion of the Observation Lounge will be repurposed to create 24 new balcony staterooms, and Norwegian Joy will recategorize 40 new spa balcony staterooms with direct access to the Mandara Spa and the premiering thermal suite.

In the premier owner’s suites with large balcony, a third bedroom will be added along with a new separate dining room

The Haven by Norwegian premier owner’s suites with large balcony will be expanded to offer three bedrooms. This is in addition to 3.5 bathrooms, a fully renovated living room, master bedroom and balcony furniture, along with a new separate dining room overlooking the forward-facing The Haven Horizon Lounge.

Vibe Beach Club expansion and cabanas

In addition, the popular and nearly always sold-out, exclusive adults-only Vibe Beach Club will be expanded, taking over the existing Laser Tag arena on Deck 20. The space will have a similar layout to the Vibe Beach Club on Norwegian Encore and Norwegian Bliss, with new private luxe cabanas.

Following the work, Norwegian Joy is scheduled to resume service on Feb. 13, embarking on an 11-day trans-Atlantic cruise from Southampton to Miami.

In March the ship will sail weeklong Caribbean cruises from PortMiami before repositioning to New York for Bermuda sailings in summer 2024.
