Pullmantur Cruises invested €20m into the revitalization of Sovereign at Navantia Shipyard in Cádiz.
During a three-week dry dock, 42 companies and 1,000 workers participated in the project, which involved renovating public spaces and cabins. A technical review was also carried out on the ship which is approaching 30 years in service, having debuted as Sovereign of the Seas for Royal Caribbean in early 1988.
Restaurants and bars got a makeover including new carpets, upholstery and furniture. Some 18,000sq mtr of carpet was replaced, 400mtr of piping renewed, more than 1,700 chairs reupholstered and 1,700sq mtr of new tile added.
Pullmantur began working with Navantia in 2012 and since then has carried out eight dry dockings in its facilities.
‘Once again we have relied on Navantia for its great experience in this type of project, flexibility and value for money,’ said Richard J. Vogel, president & ceo of Pullmantur Cruises.
Sovereign has departed Cádiz, heading for an austral summer season in Brazil.
