The new paddlewheeler will also have a number of single-occupancy rooms for solo travelers.

American Cruise Lines said its 150-passenger vessel is 11 weeks ahead of schedule at Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, Md. Queen of the Mississippi is scheduled to enter service Aug. 11.

According to vp Timothy Beebe, the paddlewheeler will offer ‘the highest quality on-board service’ and ‘raise the bar in river cruising.’

Queen of the Mississippi has 78 roomy accommodations and modern amenities in an ambiance of the Victorian luxury of classic late 1800s Mississippi riverboats.

To maximize the views and give a greater feeling of spaciousness, more staterooms and suites will have sliding glass doors to access the private balconies on the third and fourth decks. Some 85% of Queen of the Mississippi’s staterooms have balconies, and 71% have sliding glass doors to the balconies.

Each room will be equipped with telephone, Wi-Fi, satellite television and DVD player, as well as a gourmet coffee brewer. There will be nightly turndown service.

Also, Queen of the Mississippi will offer afternoon tea, and the Top Deck Cafe will provide hot and cold beverages, snacks and pastries throughout the day.

The vessel is scheduled to operate over the entire Mississippi River system, including the Ohio, Cumberland and Tennessee rivers. Itineraries are planned that take passengers as far north as St. Paul, Minn., on the Mississippi and as far east as Pittsburgh on the Ohio River.
