Seven Seas Grandeur to display custom-designed Fabergé egg
Regent Seven Seas Cruises collaborated with Fabergé, the globally revered jewelry maison, on a bespoke egg objet for Seven Seas Grandeur.
October 26, 2022
Called 'Journey in Jewels,' it will be the pièce de résistance of a multimillion-dollar curated art collection for the 2023 ship.
Regent said it partnered with Fabergé due to the iconic jewelry brand’s legacy of perfection, craftsmanship, relentless pursuit for excellence and ability to capture a moment in time and create stories and art pieces that span generations.
Inspired by Winter Egg of 1913
Journey in Jewels takes inspiration from the Fabergé Winter Egg of 1913, while also representing the sea. The egg’s three-tiered base is a cascading waterfall of ocean greens and subtle turquoise, while its outer shell’s deep blue waves become lighter before breaking into a sea spray of pearls.
Exterior features include a ground-breaking ombre enamel shell — the first time Fabergé has applied this intricate enamelling technique to an egg.
Secret surprise inside
The shell is comprised of seven blades, representing the seven seas, which will unfurl to reveal a surprise hidden inside, details of which are being kept secret until Seven Seas Grandeur is christened in 2023.
Journey in Jewels will be approximately 18 centimeters/seven inches tall, with a three-tiered base that hides the movement of the egg’s opening mechanism.
It is designed by Fabergé’s Head of Design Liisa Tallgren and will be hand-crafted by one of Fabergé’s appointed workmasters and a team of artisans based in southeast England. From conception to crafting, the egg will have taken 48 months to complete come November 2023 when it will take pride of place in Seven Seas Grandeur’s atrium.

Two 'Spotlight Voyages'
The Regent-Fabergé partnership also extends to a pair of ‘Spotlight Voyages’ that will immerse art enthusiasts in the world of Fabergé.
The first cruise will be hosted by Fabergé Curatorial Director Géza von Habsburg on Seven Seas Splendor in June 2023, sailing from Southampton to Stockholm. Travelers will explore Fabergé's connection to Great Britain and the British royalty before extending to Scandinavia to discover the origins of Fabergé’s craftspeople and collections in Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
Sarah Fabergé, great-granddaughter of Peter Carl Fabergé and founding member of the Fabergé Heritage Council, will host a Seven Seas Grandeur cruise in 2024.
American Queen Voyages has Fabergé eggs
American Queen Voyages' Pacific Northwest paddlewheeler American Empress has a permanent display of Fabergé eggs from the estate of David Giersdorf's father, a pioneer of Alaska travel.
Though his father died before the vessel was completed, Giersdorf followed through with his dad's vision of combining Russian Alaska and Pacific Northwest artifacts onboard since Empress initially was based in Alaska.
