VTP wins appeal made by Adelte over boarding bridge design
A Barcelona court has rejected an appeal initiated by Adelte (formerly known as TEAM) and specialising in the design of passenger gangways, regarding an alleged plagiarism committed by Venezia Terminal Passeggeri (VTP) in the design of its SBB (Ship Boarding Bridge) passenger gangway.
At the hearing Adelte’s allegations were judged baseless.
According to VTP, thus clearing the authenticity of the design of its passenger bridge and intellectual property.
Adelte’s strategic commercial director Martin Westphal told SCN that his company strongly and rightfully protects its designs and intellectual property.
Since 1997, Adelte delivered over 140 seaport boarding bridges all over the world, including two units to VTP in 2007 and 2008.
‘The design information Adelte shared in these years with VTP was not covered under a confidentiality agreement because the VTP employee that signed the agreement was not authorized to sign the document, according to the Barcelona court,’ said Westphal.
‘The court’s verdict however does not indicate that VTP has not copied ADELTE’s designs,’ Westphal remarked, adding, ‘the Barcelona court rejected Adelte’s allegations based on a formal question and that has impeded to judge the real substance of our allegations.'
VTP Engineering, a subsidiary of VTP designed a Multipurpose Boarding Tower (MBT) and SBB gangway as solutions to facilitate the boarding and disembarkation of passengers from cruise ships in the port of Venice.
‘This sentence opens new commercial perspectives,’ stated Galliano Di Marco, md of VTP and chairman & ceo of VTP Engineering.
