Celebrity Equinox gains The Retreat, new dining, youth STEM programming, technology

Celebrity Equinox
Celebrity Equinox resumed service following a bow-to-stern modernization at Navantia Shipyard in Cádiz that added features for suite guests, innovative dining, a new spot for craft beers/cocktails, refreshed staterooms, science programming for youngsters and advanced technology.

The year-round Caribbean ship underwent the changes as part of the $500m 'Celebrity Revolution.'Previously based at PortMiami, it now sails from Port Everglades.

Frost Museum of Science partnership

Celebrity Equinox is launching a new partnership with Miami's Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science, featuring STEM-focused activations and programming offered as part of the Camp at Sea for young cruisers.

The programming delves into two science topics — indentifying and solving issues related to microplastics and the importance of plankton to the oceans and the environment.

The Retreat, Qsine, Craft Social

Celebrity Equinox gained The Retreat for suite guests, including The Retreat Sundeck and The Retreat Lounge (formerly Michael’s Club). Staterooms and suites shipwide received enhancements designed with comfort in mind. All now feature Celebrity Cruises' eXhale bedding with king-sized cashmere mattresses.

Innovative dining spot Qsine replaced Asian restaurant Silk Harvest and features both the brand-exclusive Le Petit Chef and Friends and the original Le Petit Chef, two dining experiences developed in partnership with TableMation and Skullmapping that bring the tabletop to life using 4k technology.

A new creation, Craft Social (formerly Gastrobar) provides a casual spot offering more than 40 craft beers, wine and cocktails on tap, comfort food favorites, flat-screen TVs and inviting leather seating.

The Passport Bar, for mixing and mingling before and after dinner, was completely reimagined.

Facial-recognition technology

Digital enhancements include RFID door lock technology and pervasive Xcelerate Wi-Fi. Passengers will also be able to experience Celebrity's facial recognition technology with the implementation of the Celebrity app, which enables smooth port arrival and expedited embarkaton, plus additional features like guest-to-guest chat and digital room keys.

Spa and retail

New treatments and products are offered at The Spa by Canyon Ranch, including three new signature couples’ treatments, Dyson Supersonic blow-outs at the Canyon Ranch Blow-Out Bar, Mink and Rapid Lash services and new customized facials by Reveal Machine, among others.

Retail expanded with a John Hardy Boutique, Kate Spade and a new watch boutique featuring Shinola, Hublot and other Swiss brands.

The 2009-built Celebrity Equinox was the third ship to be 'revolutionized.' Twenty-nine days of work began on May 4 in Cádiz and involved more than 500 engineers, architects, artisans, designers, contractors, shipyard employees and the newbuild and Celebrity teams.

Celebrity Silhouette is next in line, and scheduled for completion on Jan. 31. Five more ships are to be modernized by 2023.
