HAL reports lanai rooms are a hit
Holland America Line said the new lanai accommodations installed on Veendam are a hit. The rooms sport large sliding glass doors with direct access to the Lower Promenade wrap-around deck.

Lanai staterooms will be added to Rotterdam this year and three other ships by 2013.

‘We are very pleased with the lanai staterooms and the enthusiastic response from our guests,’ said HAL’s Rick Meadows, evp marketing, sales and guest programs. ‘They have a nice layout and direct deck access and enhanced views are a major benefit.’

HAL’s Statendam-class ships have fewer verandah accommodations than on the newer Vista and Signature vessels so the lanai rooms give a great value with outside deck access, Meadows added.

Each lanai stateroom also features reserved deck chairs outside the sliding glass doors that have a one-way mirrored coating for privacy.

The addition of the 38 lanai rooms on Veendam was a key feature of the latest round of Signature of Excellence enhancements at HAL. Thirty-two new verandah staterooms also were built on the aft portion of the ship, along with eight new inside rooms.

Another enhancement was the creation of 15 spa staterooms - 12 outside converted to verandah in drydock and three other inside - with special décor and extra spa amenities.
