HAL’s Statendam completes upgrades at Grand Bahama

HAL’s Statendam completes upgrades at Grand Bahama
Holland America Line’s Statendam re-entered service from Port Everglades this week after completing a ‘Signature of Excellence’ upgrade at Grand Bahama Shipyard.

The 1993-built ship received new stateroom furnishings and bathroom upgrades, a new alternative Italian dinner venue, a restyling of its main lounge and a new three-bars-in-one concept.

Four HAL ships have undergone the changes, with Statendam following Veendam, Rotterdam and Ryndam. Maasdam is scheduled for similar work in April 2011.

Statendam gained Canaletto, a complimentary, casual Italian dining spot in a section of the Lido Restaurant. The casino and piano bars were reconfigured into Mix, offering a trio of venues called Martinis, Champagne and Spirits & Ales, each serving their namesakes.

The main lounge was converted into the Showroom at Sea with a nightclub ambiance and several new shows. The casino was redesigned, and the upscale jewelry outlet Merabella was added to the fully renovated main shopping area with its jewelry and watch boutiques.

Other public areas were refurbished and received new carpeting.

Statendam’s staterooms were re-carpeted, too, and gained new soft goods and completely renovated bathrooms with new vanities and cabinetry. Sixteen rooms near the Greenhouse Spa were transformed into spa staterooms with extra amenities.
