Biosphere Innovation’s BarrierTech products for hand sanitizing and for surface cleaning and disinfection are close to obtaining approval from US authorities for use on ships, said Morten Mathiesen, president and md of Loipart’s Fort Lauderdale office.
The products are already approved in Europe, where they are used aboard the Hurtigruten fleet and on two vessels managed by V.Ships, according to Mathiesen, who is also part owner and co-founder of Lysaker, Norway-based Biosphere Innovation.
The BarrierTech products kill pathogenic bacteria and viruses in both an active and preventive manner but are environmentally safe, according to Biosphere Innovation. The hand sanitizer is alcohol free and the cleaner is chlorine free so it doesn’t damage surfaces like wood veneers, Mathiesen noted.
The BarrierTech cleaner comes in 100 milliliter packets for compact shipping and storage. For use, the product is diluted to 20 liters (five gallons). Mathiesen said it is non-toxic when diluted, emits no volatile organic compounds and may be stored safely and used without protective gear. US approval for use on food-contact surfaces is expected.
The Fort Lauderdale Loipart office holds the exclusive worldwide marine distributorship for Biosphere Innovation products.
