Liz Gammon, Seatrade Expedition Ambassador and Independent Cruise Consultant, has updated and revised her overview of the Expedition Cruise sector in this latest e-report written in April.

Since the first edition was published in 2020 a lot of water has flowed under the bows of the expedition fleet as the COVID-19 pandemic took its toll on all areas of cruising. This report lists the new ships that have joined the Expedition Fleet since 2019 and those under construction or on order through to 2023. By the end of 2023, and pending no ships heading to the breakers between now and then, the global expedition fleet will number 94 vessels.

Destination-wise it’s not anymore just about cruising in polar waters with warmer, exotic locations making a noticeably marked appearance, notes Gammon. But wherever the arena, sustainability and protecting the environment are always uppermost in expedition operator’s and charterer’s minds. This e-report shares frequently asked questions by ports and destination on the opportunities and challenges in welcoming expedition ships and their guests as well as  a list of  the main current expedition cruise operators/charterers with links to their websites.

Download the e-report which includes details of new ships from 2019-2023 and list of current expedition cruise operators/charterers.
