Carnival Cruise Line said everyone onboard is safe, and passengers were cleared by local authorities to go ashore.

'We continue to assess the situation,' Carnival added.

Five-day cruise from Canaveral

Carnival Freedom departed Port Canaveral Monday on a five-day cruise and arrived at Grand Turk following Wednesday's visit to Amber Cove.
