The global insurance company, which is owned by the MAPFRE Group of Spain, is the fourth new executive partner to join CLIA Australasia this year.

According to InsureandGo Australia’s gm Sebastian Kaisin, it offers special cruise cover not included in general travel insurance, such as a missed cruise departure.

Kaisin said CLIA membership will enable the company to learn more about the industry’s growth and keep cruise agents informed about key features of the company’s product.

CLIA Australasia gm Brett Jardine said the move reflects growing interest in the cruise industry by external suppliers as local cruise passenger numbers continue to expand.

‘Cruising is the shining star of tourism in Australia and New Zealand so it makes good sense for affiliated businesses to build a closer relationship with cruise lines and cruise agents through CLIA membership,’ Jardine said.

CLIA will launch the 2014 Australian Cruise Industry Source Market Report at the upgraded Overseas Passenger Terminal in Sydney on May 26.
