First planned to start Jan. 15, the trials were postponed for bad weather. The ship was then due to leave Saint-Nazaire at 10 p.m. Jan. 17 and return the afternoon of Jan. 21. However, that was canceled by a tugboat and port sailors’ strike.

Pension reform protests

Workers are protesting pension reform in France.

Chantiers de l’Atlantique couldn’t say when the sea trials will take place.

Sister of 2018’s Celebrity Edge, Celebrity Apex is 306 meters/1,004 feet long, 38 meters/125 feet wide and measures 129,500gt. It has 2,900 lower berths.

March 30 naming

After delivery, Celebrity Apex is to be named in Southampton on March 30 by Reshma Saujani, best-selling author and president and founder of Girls Who Code.

Three other Edge-class ships are on order for delivery in 2021, 2022 and 2024.
