AIDAluna's B+V overhaul installs scrubber, updates photo shop

The scrubber installation is the first step in implementing the exhaust gas treatment system developed within the Carnival Group that is expected to reduce sulfur oxide emissions by 90% and will be installed aboard all AIDA Cruises ships. AIDAluna will be fitted with further components, like the operator's other vessels.

The photo shop gained a new facial recognition system that allows passengers to log in using their boarding pass to view any pictures of themselves. They may then order prints. This on-demand system is expected to cut the consumpion of photo paper and chemicals by 50%. AIDAluna's photo shop also got new printing machines and converted its picture display shelves.

Other work on the 2009-built ship included the refurbishment of deck surfaces, cabins and public spaces and engine and stabilizer maintenance.

A leading repair facility, the Blohm+Voss yard is close to Hamburg's cruise terminals, allowing AIDAluna to resume service without a lengthy transfer voyage.

On Friday the ship is due to berth at the Cruise Center HafenCity West for the opening of Hamburg’s 825th Port Anniversary festivities. After that, AIDAluna will embark on a four-day cruise to Amsterdam and the UK.
