Carnival Australia ships take humanitarian aid to Vanuatu

As requested by the Vanuatu Disaster Recovery Centre, the 70,285gt ship is carrying tents, tarpaulins, bottled water, tinned fish, children’s toys and cleaning products and industrial mulchers which will play a vital role in the clean-up. 

Pacific Dawn’s passengers were invited to contribute directly by bringing canned food, insect repellent and personal hygiene products, as well as taking part in special fundraising concerts on board. 

En route to Port Vila the ship will call at Noumea and Lifou. She will only spend a few hours in Port Vila on Wednesday to unload the supplies and passengers will not disembark given the state of emergency on the ground.

Sydney-based Pacific Pearl will depart Monday with more urgently needed supplies including food and water and sheets of corrugated iron for shelter which will be handed over when she docks briefly in Port Vila on March 28. 

Carnival Cruise Line’s 88,500gt Carnival Legend which is making her inaugural extended season in Australia, called at Santo in Vanuatu earlier this week with bottled water and a generator for Port Vila.

Her sister ship, Carnival Spirit, which has been permanently home-ported in Sydney since October 2012, departs March 30 with another shipment of humanitarian aid.
