As a Gold supporter, Carnival will donate $40,000 a year for three years to help sustain the competition. The foundation awards nearly $20,000 annually in prize money for outstanding print, online and multimedia works, for travel photography and audio and video broadcast.

The Lowell Thomas contest does not promote any particular destination or travel product, is open to all North American journalists and is judged independently by the faculty at top US schools of journalism who are paid for their efforts.

Carnival's Roger Frizzell, svp corporate communications and chief communications officer, said his company respects and highly values the 'journalistic story-telling of the Carnival experience,' adding: 'In fact, it is essential to helping us make the Carnival product the best option for cruise passengers.'

SATW Foundation president David Molyneaux thanked Carnival and its other partners for their donations toward helping 'recognize and reward excellence in travel journalism.'
