Carnival Cruise Line on Sunday began its longest deployment yet in Norfolk, Virginia, with Carnival Magic embarking on its first sailing of an extended season.

This is expected to bring the highest volume of cruisers to the city in its history.

Carnival Magic is set to carry 100,000 passengers embarking at Norfolk’s Half Moone Cruise Center this season. The ship will operate 26 sailings, ranging from four to 10 days, through Oct. 27.

'Wonderful to be back'

'It's wonderful to be back in Norfolk, our home for this extended season over the next five months,' Carnival Magic Capt. Bruno Palomba said.

The ship will call at ports in the Bahamas such as Nassau, Half Moon Cay, Freeport and Bimini, as well as Bermuda and Caribbean destinations including San Juan, Amber Cove (Dominican Republic) and Grand Turk.

Carnival Magic's first cruise is a weeklong trip to Nassau, Bimini and Freeport.
