Carnival Cruise Line resumed operations Thursday from Charleston, South Carolina, with Carnival Sunshine.

This marks 19 Fun Ships carrying passengers, with the line's remaining three US-based vessels scheduled to resume in March. It's uncertain when the two Australia ships can restart.

Sunshine festivities

A ribbon-cutting kicked off Carnival Sunshine's embarkation and crew cheered passengers. The ship departed on a four-day cruise to Nassau, Bahamas.

'We have been sailing from Charleston for 12 years, so we are excited to be back offering guests from all over the southeastern US the opportunity to cruise from this beautiful, historic and charming community, all while providing support to the local economy,' Carnival President Christine Duffy said.

Carnival Sunshine will operate year-round from Charleston, offering a variety of cruises to the Bahamas and the Caribbean.
