Carnival, Royal, Celebrity ships to aid St. Vincent in volcanic eruption threat

Four ships from three cruise lines are rushing to St. Vincent to help evacuate residents who are under threat from the imminent eruption of Soufrière volcano.

According to CNN, the island is on red alert, with evacuation orders in place in about a dozen districts, affecting roughly 6,000 to 7,000 people.

Serenade of the Seas and Celebrity Reflection

Royal Caribbean International’s Serenade of the Seas and Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Reflection are on their way to the island nation and were expected arrive Thursday night to assist with evacuation efforts.

Carnival Paradise and Carnival Legend to arrive Friday

Carnival Paradise is expected to arrive by 11 a.m. local time on Friday, and Carnival Legend should arrive by approximately 2 p.m.

Each Carnival ship will accommodate up to 1,500 residents who will be transported to neighboring islands which have agreed to offer refuge out of harm’s way. 

The three cruise lines said all precautions will be taken to protect the health and safety of their crew and the people who board the ships.
