CMV announce Marco Polo’s 50th anniversary cruise
Cruise and Maritime Voyages has announced a 36 night voyage to Canada and Greenland to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of its cruise ship Marco Polo next year.
The ship will sail from the vessel’s homeport - the London Cruise Terminal in Tilbury - on July 24, 2015 returning to Tilbury August., 29. Prices start from £2,599pp. Bookings go on sale this weekend.
Tilbury is where CMV first based its Marco Polo cruise operations over five years ago reinvigorating the 98 year old harbour and a Grade II listed landing stage with an annual programme of regular cruise departures. CMV’s commitment to the Essex port has encouraged a recent investment of £2.6m with work due to start shortly.
From Tilbury, Marco Polo will head off to the Shetlands, then the Faroe Islands and up to Iceland. The ship then cruises to Greenland and includes visits to Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, the St. Lawrence River, Québec and Montréal with a call into Cobh (Cork) Ireland on the way back to Tilbury.
Marco Polo began life in 1965 as Baltic Steamship Company's Alexandr Pushkin named after the Russian poet. In 1991, the ship was sold to Orient Lines who renamed the ship Marco Polo. In 2002, Orient Lines was acquired by Norwegian Cruise Lines and in 2008 she was bought by the Greek company Global Maritime. Cruise & Maritime Voyages took over the UK operations of Marco Polo in 2010.
