Peak viewing times for the showers, Aug. 10-13, are expected to be Aug. 12-13 because the full moon on Aug. 10 is likely to limit viewing.

In cooperation with the Osservatorio Astronomico del Righi (Righi Astronomical Observatory) of Genoa, the two Costa neoCollection ships are equipped with Skymaster telescopes so cruisers can scan the sky while sailing or during port stopovers.

In addition, Costa staff trained by the scientists of the Genoese Observatory will guide passengers, providing stellar charts and information on the various constellations.

During Costa neoRiviera's 12-day Mediterranean cruise, the ship will call at San Lorenzo, Sardinia, Aug. 13, the 'night of the falling stars.'

Costa neoRomantica is sailing 13- to 15-day cruises in northern Europe, where daylight lasts longer during the summer. To better see the stars, the 'Stargazers' activity is enriched by cutting-edge H-Alfa ray solar telescopes that offer the chance to safely observe the sun.

The 'Stargazers' program is a bonus in the Costa neoCollection, a style of 'slow cruising' operated by Costa on its smaller ships. Off-the-beaten-path destinations are also featured.

The nights between Aug. 10 and 13, especially during the call at San Lorenzo, will be a celebration not only on Costa neoRiviera and Costa neoRomantica, but also on the other Costa ships deployed in the Mediterranean. All passengers will be invited to participate in activities themed on the 'falling stars.' In addition, Costa staff will advise cruisers on the best spots to observe the meteor shower.
