Mariner of the Seas is now scheduled to turn around at the Port of Galveston today, Tuesday, with its next cruise shortened by a day. The ship will miss Costa Maya but call at Cozumel.

The powerful early-season storm made landfall on the Texas coast early Monday as a Category 1 hurricane, bringing heavy rain, flooding and power outages, and causing a reported eight deaths, seven in the greater Houston area.

Working to restore operations

Update: Port of Galveston staff and port partners are working to safely open the port for business. Roadways, including Harborside Drive, are now passable. Port administration offices are closed today due to power outages. Power remains out for areas of the port and city.

Vessel operations remain suspended with case-by-case considerations based on hydrographic surveys of Galveston Harbor and port berths to assure navigable depths.

Mariner of the Seas is cleared to dock at 1 p.m. to disembark passengers. Embarking passengers are asked to arrive after 4 p.m. at their scheduled window to board for an 8 p.m. departure.

No Carnival changes

Carnival Jubilee, Carnival Breeze and Carnival Dream all sailed from Galveston over the weekend. Carnival Jubilee and Carnival Breeze embarked Saturday, while Carnival Dream embarked Sunday and departed a bit early, at 3 p.m., ahead of the port's closure.

Carnival Cruise Line won't have ships in port for a few days, per the normal schedule, and Carnival Breeze is the next vessel set to return to Galveston, on July 11.
