Carnival Cruise Line’s new flagship, emblazoned with a Texas Star on its bow, was welcomed home with a grand water salute Wednesday morning as it docked at the port's Terminal 25 for the first time.

The 26th Fun Ship heralds a significant expansion in Galveston, which has grown to become one of Carnival’s top homeports since the company became the first year-round cruise line there more than two decades ago.

Joins Carnival Breeze and Carnival Dream

Carnival Jubilee joins Carnival Breeze and Carnival Dream as part of a four-ship deployment plan that will be complete when Carnival Miracle repositions to Galveston next fall.

With a Texas star on its bow, Carnival Jubilee sails into the Port of Galveston

'The Texas star on her bow isn’t just decoration; it’s a symbol of our gratitude to our guests sailing from Texas who’ve made us the number one cruise line in Galveston, and our commitment to the future of cruising from this great city and state,' Carnival President Christine Duffy said.

Roller-coaster and LNG firsts

Along with bringing the first shipboard roller-coaster to Texas, Carnival Jubilee will usher in the use of LNG in Galveston. The port made enhancements to accommodate the use of LNG and Carnival’s decision to deploy the new ship there triggered a $53m investment in terminal improvements.

The terminal, which has been home to Carnival ships since 2000, has been renovated 'top to bottom, inside and out,' according to Rodger Rees, Galveston Wharves port director and CEO. 'From a new roof, expanded dock and exterior colors to new interior finishes and furniture, the terminal has a fresh, new look.'

Dec. 23 maiden voyage

Now, Carnival Jubilee’s 1,750 crew are preparing to welcome more than 6,000 passegners aboard for Saturday's maiden departure. The ship is set to sail on a seven-day Western Caribbean cruise, visiting Mahogany Bay in Roatán, Costa Maya and Cozumel. The ship will continue sailing weeklong cruises year-round.
