IMO's Concordia action plan adds points on stability, watertight doors

The International Maritime Organization will consider the possible extension to existing passenger ships of the SOLAS requirement relating to computerized stability support for the master in case of flooding and a new item on watertight doors maintenance.

These matters are going into IMO's updated long-term action plan and spring from the Costa Concordia casualty.

At its recently completed 94th session, IMO's Maritime Safety Committee continued work related to passenger ship safety and updated its long-term action plan following consideration of the outcome of the Subcommittee on Implementation of IMO Instruments (III) on the Costa Concordia casualty report and other proposals received.
