Marella Cruises announced Captain Steve James will be master of Marella Voyager, leading the team responsible for the delivery of onboard operations for the line's latest ship, which will enter service in June.

The British captain, who has worked for Marella Cruises for six years, has previously captained Marella Explorer and Marella Dream, before she was retired.

Voyager will make her first sailing from Palma De Mallorca on June 3, following a naming ceremony in Malaga on May 31.

Summer Med; winter Caribbean

The 1,912-passenger vessel will spend the summer in the Mediterranean and then reposition to the Caribbean for winter sailing in November 2023 from Barbados.

Captain James began his career working on submarines in the Royal Navy before moving into the cruise industry and working his way up the ranks, training at the Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, as well as Warsash and Glasgow Nautical Colleges.

Supporting James on Marella Voyager will be Jonny Ryley as cruise director; Georgio Katikkis as hotel director and Thomas Zinnert as chief engineer.
