'This announcement is the result of 10 years of hard work by the Promotion Saguenay team through the continued regional development of the international cruise market,' Saguenay Mayor Jean Tremblay said. He called the arrival of Queen Mary 2 'the ultimate affirmation for the destination, a vote of confidence and a phenomenal recognition.'

The mayor promised festivities for the occasion with residents of Saguenay and the region invited to participate.

A senior executive from Cunard visited Saguenay in collaboration with Cruise the Saint Lawrence association last summer. He inspected the wharf services and facilities, the reception, Saguenay Fjord and its attractions, the lavish 'La Fabuleuse' production and the downtown area.
