Port Canaveral welcomed new year-round ship Disney Treasure.

This is the third Disney Cruise Line vessel based at the port, joining 2022 sister Disney Wish and 2012's Disney Fantasy.

Port Canaveral CEO Capt. John Murray participated in a plaque exchange with Disney Treasure Capt. Marco Nogara, other Canaveral Port Authority officials and Jose Fernandez, VP port strategy, development and operations for Disney Cruise Line.

Treasure Tomorrow launch

DCL's new 'Treasure Tomorrow' initiative will fund and support a variety of community-building efforts through career exploration programs for students in each port Disney Treasure visits.

Part of this is teaming with Brevard Schools Foundation, an organization the line has supported for more than 10 years, to give students the opportunity to step aboard the new ship, meet Disney cast and crew members, and learn about careers at sea. DCL also will sponsor career exploration programs for local students interested in the maritime, tourism, hospitality and entertainment industries.

In Falmouth, the US Virgin Islands, Grand Cayman and Abaco (near Castaway Cay), DCL is sponsoring Junior Achievement programs. In St. Thomas, the line is working with the School Kids in the Park program to help students learn about conservation, coral reefs, native plants and sea turtles.

In Tortola, a collaboration with the Youth Empowerment Project and the Learning, Earning and Achieving Dreams program introduces high school students to hospitality careers and leadership roles. Cast and crew will also work in a variety of Disney VoluntEARS events across Florida and the Caribbean.

Sustainability commitment

'In addition to creating high-quality guest experiences, Disney and Port Canaveral share a commitment to sustainable operations, leveraging innovative strategies and exploring new ways to minimize our environmental footprint,' Canaveral Port Authority Chairman Micah Loyd said.

Following a series of inaugural activities, Disney Treasure is scheduled to embark on its maiden voyage Dec. 21 to Tortola, St. Thomas and Castaway Cay. This begins a program of weeklong cruises to ports in the eastern and western Caribbean and The Bahamas.

Location and LNG expertise

Canaveral was selected as Disney Treasure’s homeport not only for its proximity to some of the world’s most popular family attractions and destinations but also for its ability to accommodate LNG-powered vessels.

The port has a purpose-built LNG fueling barge and specialized safety and fire-fighting practices.
