Norwegian Escape was refloated shortly after midnight after grounding in the channel bed as it departed the new Taino Bay port at Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, Monday afternoon.

The ship is alongside, where it is being assessed for any damages, according to a Norwegian Cruise Line spokesperson.

Passengers onboard tweeted that Norwegian Escape was freed at about 12:45 a.m. with the help of tugs.

Everyone is safe

'All guests and crew are safe,' the spokesperson said.

On Monday, NCL reported onboard operations had not been impacted, and all services and activities continued as scheduled.
