Queen Victoria will be the only Cunard ship to have ever drydocked in Belfast
Harland & Wolff has been awarded a drydock contract for two cruise ships – from P&O Cruises and Cunard – to occupy the Belfast drydock for a total of 33 days.

The first ship to dock under the agreement will be Cunard’s Queen Victoria from May 2-19.

The 294-meter vessel will be the largest cruise ship ever to have dry docked in a UK shipyard, according to a spokesperson for Harland & Wolff, and the only Cunard ship to drydock in Belfast.

Queen Victoria entered service in December 2007.

The second vessel to undergo standard drydocking operations at the 81-acre Belfast shipyard will be P&O Cruises’ Aurora, which entered service in May 2000. The 270-meter-long ship will remain at the yard between June 9-23.

Supporting the UK maritime industry

Remarked David Varty, VP projects and planning, maritime, Carnival UK, ‘We are delighted to be able to have these two ships at a UK shipyard with such a long heritage and reputation, and we very much look forward to supporting the UK maritime industry and working closely with the Harland & Wolff team on this project.’

Added Harland & Wolff’s group CEO, John Wood, ‘When acquiring the assets of Harland and Wolff, Belfast in December 2019 and in a pre-pandemic period, the cruise industry was one of our key target markets.

‘Our facilities are ideally placed to capitalise on these types of large projects…’
