Princess Cruises to feature in BBC programme ‘Sea Cities’

One of Princess Cruises’ newest ships will feature in BBC’s upcoming ‘Sea Cities’ series. Following on from the popularity of the BBC’s previous ‘Sea City’ series, a three-part documentary based in the Port of Southampton, ‘Sea Cities’ visits several ports across the UK to view their activities and events as well as meet staff and seafarers.

Princess Cruises’ 3,560-guest ship, Royal Princess, will appear in the ‘Sea Cities: Maritime Liverpool’ episode, which highlights what goes on behind the scenes of the 19-deck, 141,000gt cruise ship during a visit to the city.

The 60-minute episode will air on February 18 on BBC2.

Royal Princess was christened by HRH, The Duchess of Cambridge in 2013. The vessel called in Liverpool seven times last year on round Britian cruises.

Liverpool has been recognised for making significant contributions in promoting cruise-tourism over the past 12 months. Last year, the city scooped the ‘Destination of the Year’ prize at the Seatrade Cruise Awards.

Tony Roberts, vice president of Princess Cruises UK, said: 'The port of Liverpool was a great location in which to film Royal Princess – it is a bustling area with a rich maritime history and the staff and local residents are always so welcoming.

'We’re really looking forward to seeing the hard work and dedication that both port staff and ship crew put in to ensure that our guests always come back happy from a visit to Liverpool.'
