Princess plans its largest Alaska deployment and ship in 2019
2019 marks 50 years in Alaska for Princess Cruises, and the line plans its biggest deployment there ever. Royal Princess will sail its first season in Alaska, marking the largest ship Princess has deployed on the itinerary.
December 5, 2017
Seven Princess ships will head north. In addition, 76% of all voyages visit Glacier Bay National Park. Plus, more than 23 cruise-tours are offered.
'In 1969, Princess Italia was our first ship to bring 525 passengers to Alaska. In 2019, we will mark another milestone by bringing Royal Princess, our largest ship ever deployed to this region, with more than 3,500 guests,' Princess president Jan Swartz said.
The line's 'Voyage of the Glaciers' sailings between Vancouver, BC, and Whittier feature two glacier-viewing experiences on every voyage, with visits to the UNESCO-listed Glacier Bay National Park plus either Hubbard Glacier or College Fjord. These seven-day cruises are offered aboard Royal Princess and Golden Princess (departing Saturdays) and Coral Princess and Island Princess (departing Wednesdays). Every northbound 'Voyage of the Glaciers' itinerary on Island Princess includes Icy Strait Point.
The Inside Passage is featured on seven-, 10- and 12-day round-trips from Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles. From Seattle, Ruby Princess departs on Saturdays and sails to Glacier Bay. Star Princess departs on Sundays and visits Tracy Arm Fjord. All Inside Passage voyages from Seattle offer 'More Ashore' late-night stays in Juneau.
The 10-day round-trips are available on Grand Princess from San Francisco, while the three 12-day cruises from Los Angeles operate on Royal Princess, Ruby Princess and Star Princess.
Plus, round-trips from Vancouver include four seven-day Inside Passage sailings on Coral Princess, Island Princess and Golden Princess, two four-day 'Alaska Samplers' on Golden Princess and one five-day 'Alaska Sampler' on Island Princess.
More than 23 cruise-tours allow travelers to combine a seven-day 'Voyage of the Glaciers' cruise with three to eight nights on land with stays at Princess Wilderness Lodges, exclusive Direct-to-the-Wilderness rail service, plus visits to Alaska's top two attractions—Glacier Bay National Park and Denali National Park. Travelers have the option to purchase a pre-paid meal package for the land portion.
2019 cruises and cruise-tours go on sale Dec. 14 (Captain's Circle members can book the day before). Residents of North America, Asia and Australia can take advantage of a 50% reduced deposit. The offer expires April 30.
