Regal Princess, which has had generator problems during its winter cruise season from Galveston, will enter dry dock in April for 'essential maintenance.'

The ship is to be out of service for repairs in Rotterdam from April 24 and return to service May 9.

Princess Cruises said that in the meantime, the technical issue prompting the dry dock does not affect safety, systems, comfort, dining, entertainment or other guest-facing features. Regal Princess, the line said, is 'fully certified for service by all applicable authorities and remains fully operational for all scheduled voyages through early April, including the April 4 trans-Atlantic voyage to Southampton that will proceed as planned.'

Impacted cruises

The April 18 sailing from Southampton is being shortened from 10 days to six days, and will call at Falmouth, Cobh, Dun Laoghaire and Belfast. Passengers will receive a pro-rated refund, future cruise credit, onboard credit and compensation for airline change fees.

The April 28 cruise is canceled. Passengers will receive a full refund, a future cruise credit, and reimbursement for airline change fees.

May 9 return in Southampton

After the Rotterdam dry dock, Regal Princess is scheduled to return to service on May 9, resuming its European season with British Isles itineraries from Southampton.

Princess apologized for the disruption to vacations.
'We understand how disappointing these changes are and we remain committed to making it right for our guests,' the line said. 'We look forward to welcoming them back aboard for an unforgettable Princess vacation.'

Current port call adjustments

Regal Princess was out of service for three weeks from late October to mid-November to address power generator failures, first with one, then a second unit. The ship began sailing again Nov. 17.

Subsequently, calls on four cruises, including the current one and the next, on Jan. 19, were adjusted to allow extra time in port for maintenance.
