The South China Morning Post said a cruise line representative on Tuesday outlined the company's COVID-19 protocols for Hong Kong's Legislative Council.

At least three to six months' notice needed

According to Jeff Bent, managing director of Worldwide Cruise Terminals, operator of Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, who was at the meeting, Royal Caribbean would need at least three to six months' notice to prepare for a return to Hong Kong.

He also told the South China Morning Post Royal was the only company so far to apply to restart cruises from Hong Kong.

Cruises halted in early January

Hong Kong halted cruises in early January as part of its wide-ranging efforts to control the Omicron variant and Kai Tak Cruise Terminal was made available as one of a number of community isolation facilities for people with no or mild symptoms to stay out of circulation until they were non-infectious.

In early February Royal Caribbean canceled the remainder of its Hong Kong season, which was to stretch until mid-March, on uncertainty about when cruises could resume.

Spectrum of the Seas' Singapore deployment was moved forward by six months and the ship began sailing from there in April, instead of October as originally planned.

Spectrum is scheduled in Singapore through April 2023
