Saga Cruises celebrates fleet anniversaries
July marks the first anniversary of Saga Cruises’ Spirit of Adventure’s maiden voyage on July 26 and Spirit of Discovery’s third anniversary on July 10.
Despite COVID-19, Spirit of Discovery has already undertaken 145,000 nautical miles, completed 48 cruises and visited 273 destinations, while Spirit of Adventure has operated just under 80,000 nautical miles, undertaken 23 cruises and visited 144 destinations.
By the ships’ anniversaries, passengers have taken nearly 2,825 excursions from Spirit of Discovery and 1,617 from Spirit of Adventure.
F&B consumption
On the food and beverage side, a total of 36.9m meals have been served and 668,000 bottles of wine poured across both vessels since they undertook their inaugural cruises.
Gin and tonic tops the poll for the most popular alcoholic drink and filet steak is the top meal choice on both ships.
Passengers also make their way through 3,100 cups of tea a day and since the ships began sailing some 5.7m eggs, 9,200kg of lobster, 13,500kg of Dover sole and 190,000kg of smoked salmon have been served.
Across the two ships more than 150 guest entertainers including the likes of Jools Holland and Rustie Lee, and more than 200 guest speakers including champion jockey Bob Champion CBE, author and journalist Martin Sixsmith and Royal Yeoman Robert Large, have graced the stage.
Nigel Blanks, CEO of Saga Cruises, said: ‘Both ships were built bespoke to our specifications with our customers in mind. We spoke to our guests at length about what they wanted and the décor and layout is entirely based on their feedback. They asked for boutique, modern and incredibly elegant and I think we achieved that.'
