The Port of San Francisco held a maiden call ceremony for Silver Explorer at Pier 35.

The 132-passenger expedition ship arrived May 5 on an 11-night West Coast cruise from San Diego to Vancouver, BC.

Silversea's first woman captain

Silver Explorer's master is Capt. Margrith Ettlin, who was promoted in 2013 as the first female captain in the Silversea Cruises fleet.

Plaques were presented to Ettlin, accompanied by Silver Explorer chief engineer Mariyan Monev Kozhuharov, by Port of San Francisco assistant deputy director Michael Nerney and Metro Cruise Services’ Cathryn Lucido.

Silver Explorer is scheduled to return to the City by the Bay on May 22.
