In addition, by April, Denmark’s northernmost cruise port will also offer an extension of the existing cruise berth from 170mtr to 190mtr giving a LOA up to 220mtr and a widening of the port entrance from 80 to 250mtr.

Welcome facilities on both berths will offer tourist information, a lounge, restrooms, free Wi-Fi, crew facility, showroom and bike rental.

Since the start of the development project, Port of Skagen has been promoting the new cruise facilities to the cruise lines and this has resulted in larger ships calling from 2015, with the port anticipating 15 ships carrying up to approximately 24,000 passengers resulting in an increase in passengers of more than 300% compared to 2014.

In order to avoid congestion Port of Skagen has decided on a limit of 3,500 cruise passengers per day.

From November 2015, a bunker service for cruise ships is being offered either from the new oil terminal, ex-pipe or by barges. All grades of HFO and MGO will be available.

Since 2014, the local cruise network – Cruise Skagen – has been working on initiatives to develop and prepare the destination for the potential increase in the number of cruise ships calling at Skagen.

Cruise Skagen has held numerous information and dialogue meetings with the stakeholders creating a very positive approach to the cruise business and Cruise Skagen has gained another 10 members – attractions, retailers, restaurants and taxi companies.

The development project is ongoing and shops and attractions will exhibit in the welcome facilities at the new cruise berth. A Cruise Skagen Guide and cruise map exclusively for cruise guests will be available for visiting passengers and crew.
