Capt. Amaru, president of the Tahiti Cruise Club which coordinates cruise shipping in French Polynesia, has been the founding chairman of the SPCA since 2010. Its members represent Pitcairn Island, French Polynesia, the Cook Islands, American Samoa, Samoa, the Kingdom of Tonga and Fiji.

In October 2015 he organised the inaugural South Pacific Cruise Forum, held in Papeete.

He said passing the baton to Vaeafe will enhance the partnership formed between the SPCA and the South Pacific Tourism Organisation at Seatrade Cruise Global 2017.

‘David’s strong involvement within SPTO as a board member as well as being on the SPCA board will help grow the Alliance for its members,' he said.

Vaeafe said he looks forward to working with partner organisations like the New Zealand Cruise Association, and to growing the deployment of ships in the South Pacific.
