Star Cruises celebrated its first visit to Puerto Princesa in the Philippines Palawan island province.

SuperStar Aquarius homeporting in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah (Malaysia) for a second season from November to March 2015, called for the first time on a new three night cruise carrying passengers from Malaysia, Taiwan, Singapore, China, Hong Kong amongst others, as well as Filipinos.

Disembarking passengers received a warm welcome with a spectacular live cultural dance performance.

The local Department of Tourism also presented welcome souvenirs. Onboard, delegates from the local authorities and business community as well as the mayor of Puerto Princesa, the Honorable Lucilo “Cecil” Bayron presented the ‘Key to the City’ to Michael Goh, svp sales, Sales of Star Cruises during the inaugural welcome ceremony. The Honorable Jose Alvarez, Governor of Palawan was also present.

Goh commented, ‘we are proud to have Puerto Princesa as one of the new destinations for SuperStar Aquarius. During this deployment, SuperStar Aquarius will make 14 calls to Puerto Princesa.’

Known as the city in a forest, Puerto Princesa lives up to its reputation as one of the most environmentally-conscious cities in the Philippines. The climate-friendly city is home to many beautiful sights and natural wonders - pristine beaches, coral reefs and lush forests that are unique to the place. It offers some of Philippines’ best kept heritage and culture.

Among some of the must-see places is the Subterranean River National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Honda Bay is another popular destination located on Palawan Island, consisting of several islets. The Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Centre, the flea market, as well as the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm are also popular attractions.
