Tampa fog shuts out Brilliance of the Seas (updated)
Update: Three US Coast Guard vessels escorted Brilliance of the Seas through heavy fog and back into Port Tampa Bay Tuesday evening. According to the Tampa Tribune, the cruise ship was the only vessel that made it into port. Brilliance of the Seas had sailed Thursday and was due back Monday morning but, like other ships, was blocked by the fog. Citing foggy conditions that have delayed Brilliance of the Seas' previous cruise and are forecast to continue for the next few days, Royal Caribbean International canceled the Feb. 23 sailing.

The decision was announced Tuesday afternoon, the day after the cruise was to have begun.
'We understand that this was not what our guests were expecting, and not what we said last night, and we share in their disappointment,' the company said in a statement.
Royal Caribbean will provide a full refund of the cruise fare plus a future cruise certificate for 25% of the fare paid for the Feb. 23 voyage. The certificate may be used on any Royal Caribbean ship within the next year.
