Viking Ocean's fourth ship will chart a 141-day world cruise
Just days before its second ship, Viking Sea, is christened in Greenwich on the Thames River May 5, Viking Ocean Cruises announced its fourth ship, Viking Sun, will spend its maiden season sailing the company’s first world cruise. The 141-day voyage will visit 35 countries and 66 ports, with a dozen port overnights.

Departing on Dec. 15, 2017, the voyage from Miami to London will take passengers to Cuba and the Caribbean, the Panama Canal, South Pacific, Asia, and to the Arabian, Red and Mediterranean seas, before concluding in the North Atlantic. Travelers also have the option of sailing from Los Angeles to London (Greenwich), a 120-day itinerary.
Fares for the full voyage start at $44,999. As on all Viking cruises, passengers will get an included shore excursion in each of the 66 ports and free, unlimited Wi-Fi. They'll also receive business class airfare, all gratuities and service fees, plus further perks.
'This world cruise is the most extensive and culturally immersive itinerary we have ever offered, and we are pleased by the early interest in pre-sales we have seen from our guests and industry partners,' Viking chairman Torstein Hagen said.
World cruise highlights include 'Privileged Access' visits to cultural institutions, and Viking’s 'Culture Curriculum' offers additional enrichment through on-board lectures and entertainment.
Among the itinerary highlights will be two days in Havana and overnights stays in destinations like Papeete, Tahiti; Auckland, Shanghai, Syndey, Laem Chabang (for Bangkok) and Singapore.
Through this month, each passenger who books the world cruise will receive $2,000 in shipboard credit, $750 in spa services credit and $750 in on-board shop credit.
The 47,800gt Viking Sun is scheduled to be delivered in late 2017. Two remaining Viking Ocean newbuilds are due in 2018 and 2020.
