The 'lucky' coins were placed by Jason Liberty, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group, and Laurent Castaing, GM of Chantiers de l’Atlantique.

Upward trajectory

'Today, we celebrate the incredible Celebrity Ascent, a ship name that fittingly represents the climb, the rise and, ultimately, the upward trajectory of both Celebrity Cruises and the Royal Caribbean Group,' Liberty said. 'It’s exciting to have our entire fleet back in the water again, and moments like this reaffirm our bright future.'

Royal Caribbean Group Chairman Richard Fain and EVP Maritime Harri Kulovaara were on hand, too.

And Castaing predicted 'another great success' as Celebrity's ships continue at Chantiers de l'Atlantique, with the mutual confidence built up between the owner's and the yard's teams ensuring a smooth work process.

'Epitome of a luxury resort at sea'

Celebrity President and CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo called Celebrity Ascent the 'epitome of a relaxed luxury resort at sea,' extolling 'forward-thinking design, culinary excellence, thoughtful well-being experiences, and our uniquely intuitive service.

Celebrity Ascent follows this year's Celebrity Beyond, 2020's Celebrity Apex and 2018's Celebrity Edge. Like Celebrity Beyond, it is 20 meters longer than the first two ships.

December 2023 debut

Celebrity Ascent is scheduled to debut at Port Everglades on Dec, 3, 2023, for an inaugural season of alternating seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries.
