Columbia Group’s COLUMBIA blue and and Tillberg Design of Sweden (TDoS) will collaborate on cruise ship building and design, with their first project underway this month.

Focus on crew satisfaction and sustainability
COLUMBIA blue’s role will be to minimise operational costs associated with propulsion, hull design and power supply, making ships more efficient; it is also tasked with optimising on board technical and hotel services.
TDoS meanwhile will ‘conduct in-depth research among the COLUMBIA onboard employees to identify necessities, priorities, wishes and trends for crew accommodation and leisure spaces on new buildings,’ according to Madelene Hall, CEO, Tillberg Design of Sweden.
COLUMBIA blue’s VP Business Development, Julia Siebert, also remarked, ‘The key to successful onboard operations is a satisfied crew, today and in future. With our collaboration, we want to be one of the driving forces in the market to increase the onboard experience of our employees.’
Purported to be beneficial for clients
COLUMBIA blue and TDoS have already worked together on a vessel design project, ‘The design skills of TDoS and the operational proficiency of COLUMBIA blue form a unique set of expertise, offering a seamless and complete project lifecycle of a vessel design – from the first lines on the sketch board, to the actual operations of the cruise vessel,’ explained Siebert.
The companies allege that the partnership will make the creative process more cost-effective for clients, merging the initial design and operational verification phases of the ship development cycle.
