Fincantieri delivers Sun Princess but maiden voyage delayed to Feb. 28
Fincantieri's Monfalcone shipyard delivered Sun Princess, first of a new class for Princess Cruises, however its entry to service is delayed.
February 14, 2024
The 175,500gt, 4,300-berth ship needs to remain alongside in the yard for additional technical work 'to ensure an outstanding vacation is delivered,' according to the line. That means the Feb. 18 cruise is canceled, with Sun Princess now scheduled to embark on its maiden voyage Feb. 28 from Civitavecchia (Rome).
Earlier, the Feb. 8 cruise had been canceled.
Passengers on the Feb. 18 voyage will get a full refund and a 50% future cruise credit. Passengers will also get reimbursement for certain travel costs/air change fees. Travel advisor commissions are protected.
New platform
The largest ship built in Italy, Sun Princess offers a wider array of categories with more balcony accommodations than any other Love Boat, new entertainment venues including The Dome atop ship, the multifunctional Arena and Spellbound by Magic Castle, a novel experience in partnership with Hollywood's Magic Castle.
LNG-powered
It also is Princess Cruises' first LNG-powered vessel and Fincantieri's first LNG-powered cruise ship.
Sphere-class sister, Star Princess, is scheduled for 2025 delivery.
Lloyd's Register is the classification society.
